The Department of Abstract Matters is, for the most part, home to gods of abstractions and concepts. A successful campaign of poaching and restructuring has seen the department acquire significant numbers of gods from other bureaus (mostly the Bureau of Humanity), necessitating the creation of a number of Divisions encompassing broad concepts, each headed by a Daimyo and with their own internal structures and bureaucracies.
In principle the Shogun of Abstract Matters is equal in rank to the Shogun of Celestial Concerns, but interpretations of the Unconquered Sun’s intent, and the disinterest of Abstract Shogun Taru-Han, god of Dying, in resisting Celestial Shogun Ryzala, mean the latter is widely accepted as de facto Bureau head by those within the Celestial Bureaucracy.
Durng the First Age, the Shogun of Abstract Matters was Lytek, god of Exaltation, who was outmaneuvered by the machinations of his rivals. Lytek’s mutterings oft place blame for his demotion on now-Shogun Ryzala, but her efforts had nigh-universal support amongst the Department’s Division Daimyo as it replaced his more controlling administration with the hands-off approach of Taru-Han... now that the Solar Exalted have returned to end the ebb of his personal power, Lytek lays plans to lay the god of Bureaucracy low so he might regain his former post. It remains to be seen if the Daimyo will shift their support once again.
