Thelmarin
Thelmarin is the God of Eastern Peace and Twilight, serving under the God of Peace Yo-Ping in the Department of Abstract Matters of the Bureau of Heaven.
Thelmarin is a god of Peace through Knowledge and the wonders it produces, where conflict is averted through understanding or technological innovation... the nations who recall their armies when dams and sluices are raised to provide both with vital water from a shared source, the scholars who cease their squabbling on learning their studies offer mutual compliment not competition. To Thelmarin, those who make war act out of ignorance, and those who lose ignorance gain peace, violence directly declaring the aggressor’s stupidity. Perhaps because of this, most gods in Yu-Shan consider her facial expression to be constantly smug.
This is strange to many mortals or Exalts who see her, for Thelmarin is a being of glowing light, rippling orange and red and purple, bound only to the rough shape of a human woman. On her back, great wings of Orichalcum unfold with the rising sun, and fold once more as Sol’s daily journey draws to a close, while on her brow a shining Sunstone diadem rests above the featureless glow where a face ought be.
In the Golden Age, Thelmarin was closely aligned with the Solar Exalted, and a confidante of Agralzo the god of discovery. However, she competed for that god’s favour with others, particularly Amoth City-Smiter god of Ruins and Vanileth god of Artificial Flight, who saw different potentials than she in new discoveries. When the two entered into an alliance in the years leading up to the Usurpation, Agralzo’s favour was secured and the god of Twilight was pushed from influence.
Despite this, Thelmarin opposed the Usurpation, and after a Shogunate Era where the East was consumed by near-constant conflict, is amongst those gods who were eager to support the return of the Solar Exalted in the present time, trying her best to ignore the violence and war which seem to birth along with them. She is not, however, an ally of the Syndics of Whitewall... while she does not know her superior Yo Ping is amongst their number, she has watched the God of Peace shift conflicts from the environs of that city into her own domain, and knows he is tied to whoever the Syndics might be. Her assumption at present is that the three mysterious gods plan to reshape the prayer mandalas of Ondar Shambal so that they might steal the prayers to the Unconquered Sun for themselves, that mass of potential prayer wealth allowing them to bribe Yo Ping into aiding them. This corruption is anathema to Thelmarin, who holds if the city will not serve Sol Invictus it must not rise again at all. Already, she has dispatched agents of her own to try and nudge the armies of the Bull of the North away from a southwards advance against Greyfalls and her domain, hoping he will instead turn against Whitewall and lay the thieving gods low, his Exaltation assuredly meaning he will then rebuild the city as it ought to be.
These forays, along with the investigations of Ruvia god of Roads into Whitewall, have not escaped the notice of her old foe Amoth City-Smiter, who has been secretly supporting them through his own agents. The city might have been devoted to the Most High, but to the City-Smiter that only makes its ruin all the more potent...
