The 9th Imperial Legion was founded in the second wave of Legions in the years after RY40, and quickly met with both glory and disaster. The Legion participated in the Second Invasion of the Scavenger Lands, where they met with substantial success and along with the 6th Imperial Legion managed to surround the city of Lookshy and hold it under siege for almost a year, until use of a devastating First Age weapon saw the bulk of the 9th Legion slain in an instant and the rest forced to retreat back to the coast. The 9th fared better than the 6th Legion and thus was tasked with covering the withdrawal. Both the 9th and 6th Legions evaded complete destruction because of their efforts, though they were withdrawn to the Blessed Isle.

The Third Invasion of the Scavenger Lands saw the 9th return, having been allocated assets from the 6th to bring it up to battle readiness. The 9th had little patience or mercy in the campaign, responding to guerrilla resistance with ravaging tactics and returning to the Realm after the defeat heavy with loot and slaves.

The last major campaign of the 9th was the War with the Bull, which saw the Legion mauled badly and its general, strategoi Tepet Tilis Mallon, slain in the forests of Halta. The Legion was ordered to withdraw and recuperate, which by some strange chance meant they were off the field when the Realm's forces were finally destroyed by the Bull. At half-strength, but bolstered by the assets recovered from the other Tepet Legions, the 9th has taken up station in Lord's Crossing Dominion and is attempting to rebuild its numbers. Despite a vast shortage of manpower, as House Tepet's only military force the 9th has also been tasked with maintaining a number of posts far afield. Those in the Threshold appear to be gifts to House V'neef, providing Imperial troops where they have interests, but those more cognizant of Tepet internal politics believe the primary purpose of such deployments is to remove political undesirables from the House power base in Lord's Crossing.
