Talk:Cybele
Anyone looking over Cybele and Zaci will note that they seem to embody gendered stereotypes of parenthood… the loving, caring mother, the distant, disciplinarian father. I’m not sure if the original author’s intent was to follow that pattern or something else, but there is certainly an argument to be made that in a fictional world there is a chance to break that sort of social pattern, through a reversal or through trying something different.
However, Exalted was written by people in THIS world, who weren’t always examining their own underlying assumptions, and so Creation still reflects a lot of these roles and stereotypes. Regardless of what one might think of them, this means that in a cohesive Creation there is some source within the setting which leads individuals and societies to do the things authors influenced by beliefs outside-setting have written. Given the metaphysics of Creation, placing that source amongst the gods makes sense: a fitting explanation for the general trend, which does not stop that trend being broken… and which might serve as a story thread for those players whose characters dream of social transformations through Heavenly reforms.
