Tepet Tilis Mallon was an elder military officer and a son of Tepet Tilis. He served nearly his whole life in the Imperial Legions, where he had a reputation for stubbornness and what was termed daring on his victories (of which there were many) and impatience on his losses (which were also numerous).
Mallon rose through the ranks of the 9th Legion alongside several officers also hailing from House Tepet, including Tepet Chotei, Tepet Yasumasa, and Tepet Hojosun. While all four were candidates for strategoi, shortly after Chotei had taken the post a spate of Senatorial appointments withdrew the others to the Imperial City, and the Scarlet Empress appointed Mallon to command the Legion.
Mallon continued as strategoi when the 9th was deployed to the North as part of the War with the Bull. There, Mallon was said to have feuded over jurisdiction with the strategoi of the 5th Imperial Legion, Tepet Arada, over matters of strategy and deployment, and over which should hold overall command of the war effort. It is thought that this dispute fed into disagreements between Mallon and Arada's subordinate Tepet Ejava, in which Ejava openly dismissed Mallon as a 'mud-witted imbecile', leading in turn to Ejava's 'promotion' to strategoi of the Vermillion Legion.
Perhaps suffering this insult and his failure to fulfil a promise to the Deliberative for victory by the end of RY762, in Resplendent Wood RY763 strategoi Mallon abandoned the defensive strategy called for by strategoi Arada and instead launched a full-strength assault against the Republic of Halta in the Battle of the Redwoods. This attack resulted in heavy casualties for the 9th Legion, and the death of Mallon, though because this forced the Legion to withdraw from the campaign so it might recover and resupply it meant that the 9th escaped obliteration at the hands of the Bull alongside other Tepet Legions.
