Uvanavu's Kiss

Uvanavu's Kiss, named for the God of Health and Well-Being in the Celestial Bureaucracy, is a medical tool which has long existed in Creation. It was devised during the Golden Age, combining a glass tube and plunger with a thin hollow needle, derived from the stinger of the Well-Bee.

Medically, the device is most commonly used for withdrawing pus from injuries or boils without opening an injury, and for pulling cysts from eyeballs without costing the sufferer sight. It was dedicated to the God of Health because of its use in Medicine, and each Kiss was blessed in his name as it was forged to ensure it remained pure and effective.

The fall of the Golden Age shattered a great deal of the infrastructure allowing the production of Kisses in large quantity, and their use declined throughout the Shogunate Era. The Great Contagion further devastated the supply, and they were hardly a priority as Fae attackers and disease became the top threats to Creation's inhabitants. During this time, the god of blood-borne diseases, Uplifted Trojon, completed a long-term effort in the struggle of his peers against the Health gods, and not long after The Guild was formed, Trojon appeared to them to offer an alliance and production plans for a lost medical device. These plans, any Golden Age savant would have noted, were missing key theological components, but the Guild was little concerned with this and began seeking ways such a device might turn a profit.

While they make sales for medical reasons, the success of the Kiss in this Age is entirely due to their adapting of it not to withdraw sickness but to inject substances, primarily their favoured drug Heroin.

Today, the Guild is the major, and almost exclusive, provider of Uvanavu's Kisses to Creation, though a few small pockets persist producing them according to the old, purified methods. Most of those produced to supply the demand in the River Province actually come from factories in Lookshy, contracted to produce the Kisses due to their reputation for exacting standards.

Though such a tool would be of use to the Realm, Kisses are little seen on the Blessed Isle, whose medical tradition favours other approaches to delivering medicines. Its association with the untrustworthy Guild, and some understanding that the Kisses seem followed by the spread of blood-borne diseases amongst poorer populations, may explain this, but others observe that the Realm is more focused on prevention of the pustulent infections and cysts the Kiss would treat, rather than on saving those who succumb.
