The Last Dragon of Chumyo Ferem
The Last Dragon of Chumyo Ferem is the name of a battle in the Fair Folk Invasion at the end of the Shogunate, taking place when the remnants of the 5th Legion of the Shogun, retreating in the face of the Fae horde pushing through the Northeastern Threshold, halted their retreat to try and hold the line in the plains north of Cherak long enough for an evacuation fleet to carry the populace out into the Inner Sea. They failed in this objective: wracked by storms, the bulk of the fleet was still being repaired to seaworthiness when the end came... but they had nevertheless held long enough to gain salvation, as the Scarlet Empress lit the skies above Creation and drove back the armies of the Fair Folk.
The remnants of the 5th Legion of the Shogun and the daimyo’s court at Cherak attempted to rebuild, and wasted no time in declaring their support for the Empress when she turned her eyes upon them, becoming the Cadet House Ferem when she sent one of her children to them in marriage. As the Gentes of old, the House took the name of the honoured figure whose legacy they claimed to inherit, that of 5th Legion Chumyo Ferem, and the battle, in art and poetry, is a common theme when the Cadet House deals with its origins.
There is some dispute between older records and modern recountings of the battle. House Ferem's official histories number the fighters in the battle as five hundred dedicated soldiers holding back thousands upon thousands of Fae, led by the vicious Fair Folk general March of Winter Wind. Recovered documents from the first century of the Scarlet Empress' rule (and the knowledge of those versed in Shogunate military organization) indicate a full Shogunate Dragon of 1,250 soldiers plus thousands more from other units and local daimyo forces/militias.
