Shell of Ambiguity

The Shell of Ambiguity is an artifact shield, crafted from the carapace of an ancient turtle which dwelt in the waters of the farthest Western seas, plated with a purple Jade Admixture and reinforced with Starmetal bands.

The Shell is an unusual artifact in that it offers no particular ease or mastery on attunement: to wield it at all requires great skill, to master it significant dedication. And yet, in the hands of one who knows it well, the Shell is potent indeed: those who face it find the movements of its wielder somehow difficult to follow, out of focus, and their blows difficult to land… indeed, the wielder of the Shell demonstrates uncanny control in deflecting attempts to strike at them, which while rarely a danger to the attacker herself can play havoc with surrounding furnishings and allies.

The Shell of Ambiguity is thought to have been crafted in the early days of the Shogunate Era, or perhaps even earlier, though by the start of the Great Contagion its bearers kept it more for decoration than for use in battle. It was recovered in the modern era by Peleps Caval, who retains it in his panoply and is said to be quite adept at its use.
