Righteous and Perfect Examiners of Illicit Scents

Department of the Thousand Scales, known colloquially as the Jade Sniffers. The Examiners of Illicit Scents are recruited from the best accountants taking the Imperial Counters Examinations. The Jade Sniffers are responsible for locating and seizing undeclared stockpiles of jade, considered both a military threat due to its magical power and an economic threat due to its role as currency within the Realm. Illegal caches are taken by the Sniffers and handed over to the Imperial Treasury.

The Sniffers operate like a mixture of Imperial Magistrate (investigating and interrogating), accountant (combing ledgers and forms for irregularities), and occultist (using Charms and thaumaturgy to detect the resonance of jade). Like the Imperial Magistracy, the Sniffers have come under attack by their enemies within the Realm since the Empress' disappearance.

Head: Righteous Minister of Inescapable Nostrils. The outcaste Dragonblooded Excellent Chrysanthemum was last to hold the post, and she was considered a highly competent and incorruptible individual. She was assassinated in Ascending Fire RY767, by vitriolic poisons mixed into the incense burned during her Immaculate religious meditations. The perpetrator has not been found.
