Paradise Flycatchers are small birds, with blue-grey bills, broad and hooked at the end. Their tails are long, with two tail streamers extending some distance behind the bird, longer than the bird's wings by a significant amount. Plumage is sexually dimorphic, with females generally more muted than males, though both are characterized by dark (blue or black) heads, white undersides, and rufous backs & wings. Paradise flycatchers have a pronounced light blue eye-ring. Their songs are simple and generally harsh.

Paradise Flycatchers are native to the Southwestern Threshold and the nearby islands of the West, as well as the Silk and Pearl Peninsula of the Blessed Isle. They are insectivores, hunting on the wing either by observing in flight or launching from perch.

Paradise Flycatchers are monogamous and generally territorial, with the female taking the majority of brooding responsibility while the male defends the nest, though both assist each other when need arises. Females select mates based on the length of the male's tail. They build small bowl-shaped nests in the forks of trees.

Paradise Flycatchers are used to represent the rank of Junior Clerk in the mandarin squares of the Thousand Scales.
