Outer Office

The Outer Office is a small subdivision of the Division of Battles, located off a corridor leading between the Crimson Panoply of Victory and the Loom of Fate. The Office has only a single desk, surrounded by scroll cases, its entrance open to allow an unfettered view of those passing to and fro in front of it.

The task of the office is two-fold. First to protect Lookshy’s fate, or at least the documents relating to it (kept in a vault of Adamant at the back of the office), and second to maintain the Codex of Minding, which documents efforts to alter fate in the vicinity of Lookshy or its population, so that any who would come close to violating the edicts of Mars concerning the city (in spirit or in law) will find the Maiden’s direct attention soon upon them. Those who wonder at the mysteries beneath Mars’ two Seals sometimes muse that they might glean truths from whatever documents the Outer Office protects… or the Office itself might be a false lure to trap those who would defy Mars’ commandment.

Of course, if the documents are not real, and besides that given the Seals themselves have inherent protections against interference, why does Mars require the Outer Office at all? Some have noted that, while Hu Dai Liang maintains an effective military intelligence service within the Division of Battles, the duties of the Outer Office mean it could well serve as an alternate espionage organ within the Division, one which answers directly and exclusively to the Maiden of Battles...

The Captain of the Outer Office is Rinmei, god of military texts and Shogunate Romance Novels.
