Iselsi Shubin, Immaculate style 'Clear Water', is an elderly Water-aspected Dynast born into House Iselsi, now a monk in the Immaculate Order serving as nestor of Saiji Temple. Though Saiji is a massive temple and home to many itinerants, making Clear Water's presence at court functions and religious ceremonies in the Imperial City expected, he has no presence there: in fact, an Imperial warrant for his immediate execution remains in force. Only the grant of sanctuary by the Order preserved his life when he fled to Saiji once the final end of the Iselsi came, and his career as a monk has proceeded entirely within its walls, unable to step beyond them.

Being subject to an execution order from the Scarlet Empress has certainly not left Clear Water well-connected in the Scarlet Dynasty, nearly all Dynasts distributing their patronage to the rival Toji Temple or other temples in the Capital. Some Outcaste monks support Clear Water's seemingly authentic faith (maintained in face of great hardships) and even those at the Palace Sublime who find his status an annoyance often feel him deserving of support to maintain the principle of sanctuary and separation between the Order and the Scarlet Empire (though there are also many who think the difficulties faced by Saiji would be resolved if only its current nestor were deposited outside its gates). The tendency of Toji's nestor to turn up her nose at the scions of House Nellens has seen some connections forged with that House, while the reputation of Saiji for working to feed the hungry commonfolk has seen open donations and visits by the radical Senator V'neef Tapan.

Though of Water aspect, Clear Water is a practitioner of Wood Dragon Style.
