Imperial Force
The Imperial Force, colloquially known as the Dragon Tamers, are an elite police & military unit of the Guardians of the Realm, operating out of the Scarlet Prefecture within the Honorable and Humble Caretakers of the Common Folk ministry of the Thousand Scales.
The Imperial Force is not a large unit, just a little over a Legion talon in size when it comes to active agents. It is, however, well-trained and well-equipped, more heavily girded in magitech than even the military formations of Lookshy. If the average citizen of the Realm ever thinks of the wonder known as ‘dragon armour’, he thinks of the Imperial Force.
The Imperial Force consists of a scale of Dragonblooded, nearly all outcastes, clad in dragon armour, supported by a talon of elite mortal troops who, in a deviation from normal practice in the Realm, are also girded in artefact armour and weapons which can be operated by their inferior essence. Mobility is granted the unit by several small transport skyships, so they can deploy across the Blessed Isle as needed. Supporting these elite troops are teams of thaumaturges and administrators to ensure smooth operations.
The need for such a wealth of equipment is due to the mission of the Imperial Force. They, alone amongst the Black Helms, are empowered to arrest the Dragonblooded.
When one of the Exalted decides to defy the law, they are difficult to stop, the power of their charms and blood placing them far above mere mortal constables, and the religious belief in their inherent spiritual correctness making most hesitant to defy even their most criminal commands. The Imperial Force is thus selected for both skill and fortitude of loyalty, equipped well, and trained expressly to defeat the Dragonblooded. They may only be deployed by request of the Imperial Magistrates or order of the Scarlet Empress, and each and every member must be approved by the Deliberative… previously the Senate was compliant in appointing the Empress’ chosen loyalists, but in her absence it has allowed neither new appointments nor any funds to reach the Dragon Tamers. The reason, of course, is simple… no Senator is comfortable with a cadre of mortals trained to be deployed against their spiritual superiors.
Head: The Imperial Force has no overall commander, each of its soldiers assuming leadership of units in situations where their expertise is most relevant. They are answerable to the Scarlet Empress directly, and as part of the Guardians of the Realm in the Scarlet Prefecture they are under command of the prefecture’s ranking Black Helm, Nellens Birane, who himself formerly served amongst their number.
