Insects are a form of creature found in Creation, including a diverse array of different entities unified mostly by being invertebrates with exoskeletons and sectioned bodies.

Creatures considered 'insects' are those whose gods belong to the Conclave of Chitin and Notches, a division of the Hierarchy of Type in the Bureau of Nature within the Celestial Bureaucracy.

The Conclave has, since the Usurpation, been engaged in internal disputes with several divinities responsible for spiders and scorpions, who have formed the rival and semi-official Grand Conclave of Arachnids, which the Conclave of Chitin and Notches holds is not a valid organisation. The insect gods also have a heated dispute with the gods of crustaceans, whom they assert should be part of their conclave but who have (sometimes violently) attempted to maintain independence.
