The Shogun mushroom is a distinctive edible fungus, found most commonly in woodland, with white stems and bright orange caps. Its name is attributed to it being the favourite fungus of a long-ago Shogun.
Shogun mushrooms are considered valuable by chefs, who prize their flavor and fragrance akin to fresh hazelnuts and toasted chestnuts. They are considered best eaten fresh, though can also be grilled with garlic and oil.
Care must be taken when harvesting, as they can sometimes resemble the poisonous Fly Agaric Mushroom.
