Efficient and Exemplary Manciples of the Martial Table

The Efficient and Exemplary Manciples of the Martial Table, known colloquially as the Imperial Quartermasters, were a division of the Thousand Scales, responsible for procurement and supply of the Realm’s military forces, including the Imperial Legions, the Imperial Navy, and the Guardians of the Realm.

They were responsible for purchasing nearly all supplies used by those organisations, delivering food, equipment, uniforms, and other sundries across the Blessed Isle and beyond through Creation. This role demanded they work closely with military hierarchies, but they possessed no ranks themselves, keeping the filling of an army’s bellies outside the direct purview of its general as a method for securing control.

In RY764, when the Great Houses took control of the Legions, the Manciples were declared disbanded by the Imperial Treasury and the Deliberative. Many of the bureaucrats of the department were not released, however, but rather picked over with the best and most amenable taken in as private bureaus of the Great Houses now controlling the purse strings (with the exception of the Black Helms, whose Manciples were made part of the prefectural governments of the Honorable and Humble Caretakers of the Common Folk).
