Black Jade Jelly

A medicinal dish from the culinary traditions of the Scarlet Dynasty, said to reinvigorate tired body and mind. It is rarely seen at regular tables but commonly served to Dynasts at the conclusion of duels. This so-called 'Black Jade Repast' sees varied interpretation across the Houses of the Dynasty, with some such as House Sesus, House Cynis, and House Ragara tending to ignore it in favour of richer meals for their victors, while others such as House Cathak and House Tepet favour it far more, the Tepets often seeing it served even if a duelist has suffered a loss. The dish also has a traditional place in the Imperial Legions where it is served to both duelists involved in a bout regardless of outcome, though restrictions on sourcing for Legion rations mean the version served is found somewhat lacking by those versed in the dish.

The jelly itself is prepared by steeping ground Obsidian in water and then straining, before adding in gelatin extrated from the hides of Donkeys (the Imperial Legions substituting that of beef Cattle) and starch as well as rock sugar and a blend of herbs. This is set and then cubed for serving.

Though traditional proportions are most commonly seen, the highest tiers of Dynastic kitchens such as the House of Healing Repast will carefully balance each component to suit the specific essence flows and physical characteristics of each diner, often using a small amount of real Black Jade to supplement the obsidian.

Consuming a full serving of the dish restores 1 mote. The House of Healing Repast's version restores 2 motes.
