The Ten Beauties of the Scarlet Dynasty is a term referring to a number of young male Dynasts in the present generation, blessed with both excellent breeding and incredible beauty. Either of these would make such a Dynast a desirable marriage candidate, together they create a true treasure.

While beauties with breeding have existed in any generation of the Dynasty, and often in greater numbers, the Ten Beauties are seen as special in that each hails from a different Dynastic Great House, a fact of appealing poetic significance.

The Ten Beauties are:

Cathak Baitai of Incas Prefecture, officer in the 2nd Imperial Legion in Vatamu.

Cynis Tiir of the Imperial City, slave overseer at the Palace of Trees in Pangu.

Ledaal Shinjo of Arjuf Dominion, playwright in the Imperial City.

Mnemon Vesko of the Imperial City, Guardian of the Gates at the Crystal Palace in the Imperial City.

Peleps Nyabe of the Imperial City, captain of the Scarlet Empress' Revenge and newly returned to the Imperial City.

Ragara Farath of Chanos, officer in the 6th Imperial Legion.

Sesus Kivo of Eagle's Launch, pioneer of 'Flame around the Mountain' style dance in the Imperial City.

Tepet Jozan of Lord's Crossing Dominion, poet in the Imperial City.

V'neef Tapan and V'neef Kenet of Qishi Prefecture, twins and Senators of the Deliberative in the Imperial City.

Two other Dynasts are sometimes counted amongst the number of the Beauties:

Nellens Zhiji of Juche Prefecture, Master of Ceremonies at the Palace of Plunging Cataracts in Juche Prefecture.

Ferem Andar of Cherak, Cherak Consul to the Realm in Vatamu.

The list of the Ten Beauties is not universally agreed upon... some argue that the V'neef twins count as only a single Beauty together, or that one or the other must be chosen since there must be only one Beauty for each House (choice between Kenet or Tapan, invariably, ties into the politics of the Deliberative at a particular moment). House Nellens, and many Patrician Clans, hold that Zhiji is one of the Beauties, while the rest of the Great Houses consider it impossible for a Nellens to stand amongst their number. The Great Houses are equally dismissive of Cadet House Ferem's stance that Andar is a Beauty, though if pushed most consider a Cadet Beauty more palatable a prospect than a Nellens, even if both are completely unacceptable (it is said that one Dynastic matchmaker swore she would marry her airy Beauty to a hog were either ever accepted into such an august fraternity!). Regardless, while it is generally accepted that Sesus Kivo is the best bred of the Beauties, the debate over which is the most beautiful remains heated but unresolved.
