Ayreon Prefecture is an inland prefecture of the western Blessed Isle, one of several such prefectures nestled in the fertile valleys of the Ahbrem Mountains. There is little of note in the prefecture, which until recent years had existed beneath the notice of the Great Houses.

Politics

Prefect: Starfall Arjen

For centuries, the only representation of the Realm’s upper classes in Ayreon has been the Starfall patrician clan, which holds a large estate in the prefecture and dominates the local offices of the Thousand Scales. Only in recent decades has a Dynastic presence been felt, with the Kaizoku household of House Peleps taking up less-than-eager residence in the prefecture’s most potent manse. The Starfall clan has been less than thrilled by this development, and the relations House Peleps has been developing with the Joy family of citizen-bureaucrats out of Werck.

Economy

Ayreon’s economy is dominated by mining and agriculture… mostly the herding of sheep and goats in the hills, and cattle in the lowlands, and mining for Iron and other basic metals. The Eye of Creation is also home to smelters and workshops for metalworking… these have fallen under the sway of the Talon League, a blacksmiths’ guild now making inroads into surrounding prefectures.

Geography

Eye of Creation – The prefectural capital, home to the Thousand Scales officers in the prefecture as well as smelters and smithies affiliated with the Talon League. Despite its grandiose name, the Eye of Creation is not large, and is home to no manses, though it is connected by a well-maintained road that leads to meet the Broad and Twisting Tail of the Dragon, though most cargo is not carried the full distance, but offloads in Dewa Prefecture to the south, where it can travel a tributary of the Yodo River by barge to reach port at Eagle’s Launch. The governor of the city is Starfall Dust.

Hall of Lambent Flames – Ruined Fire-aspected manse in the Ayreon mountains near the Eye of Creation, nominally headquarters of the Kaizoku household of House Peleps.

Werck – A mining town in the Ayreon Mountains on the eastern border of Ayreon Prefecture, Werck is home to the Joy family, citizens with a tradition of work and investment to pass the exams and gain posts in the Thousand Scales. Their efforts towards social advancement (and the dream of patrician status) have long been suppressed by the Starfall clan, until the recent attentions of House Peleps opened up new opportunities. The town’s governor (though this title is still under dispute within the Thousand Scales) is Joy Canyon.

Maya – A prosperous agricultural township, known for its excellent weather. Unbeknownst to outsiders, the locals have achieved this through heretical worship of a corrupt Lion-Dog dwelling in the hills nearby. The town headperson is Tower Stone.

Ashra – An agricultural village devoted to the Immaculate faith... a devotion which has left them with a dark and murderous secret they fear will be discovered.
