The ‘Fivefold Seasonal Courtesans’ are five types of Elemental whose appearance and colouration, temperaments, and specialties as bedmates are said to match the climates and moods of Creation’s five seasons. Presence on the list ensures a place for such elementals on the staff of spirit bordellos and the entourages of the Scarlet Dynasty (particularly amongst House Cynis and House Ledaal), and dress reminiscent of their appearance are a regular (if Immaculate-opposed) at seasonal costume galas.

The five elementals who make up the Fivefold Courtesans are the Sylph (Air), the Nymph (Water, and considered the finest of the five), the Oread (Earth), and the Dryad (Wood). For that last elemental, there is some dispute over if dryads entire, or merely a particular subset, are the true Seasonal Courtesan, while for Fire the dispute is much deeper: most hold that the Fire Butterfly is fitting, but the hatred those beings feel towards other beautiful spirits, and their inability to accept the primacy of the Nymph as finest of the Courtesans, means many substitute the Flame Duck in their stead, with or without supporting arguments for the change.

In the Imperial City, the House of Ten Thousand Ecstatic Moments is known to offer its clientele an evening event known as the Romance of the Five Seasons, where the talents of all of the Seasonal Courtesans may be experienced first in sequence, then finally in conjunction, accompanied by appropriate music and incense.
