Sylphs are air elementals, bearing the shape of nearly-translucent, androgynous humans, whose hair and broad feathered wings trail off into puffs of white cloud. They are considered beautiful creatures, their hermaphroditic natures another reason for summoners to seek them out as lovers, and while they might not embrace such a state they are not so willful or demanding as a Nymph, though they are more easily frightened. However, in addition to being employed as spirit concubines, sylphs are known for the beauty of their dancing, which they perform in flight, spinning and leaping to guide the movement of the surrounding breezes. This, and their ability to understand the complex courses of air in the skies around them, makes them useful to those involved with the control and prediction of weather.

Sylphs come into existence when two of Creation’s winds encounter one another, and one is stopped or diverted by the other, the elemental appearing to set the halted flow right once more.
