Soja is a forest kingdom of the Northeastern Threshold, bordering Halta, Lake Kol, Jarrith, and Bloody River, its eastern border marked by the Golden Leaf Canal and its southern reaches plagued by the Tribe of the Three Owls.

Soja is culturally related to Halta, but broke away centuries ago due to disagreements over the cultural role of beastmen: beastmen form a ruling class in Soja, due to their vital role in maintaining communications between tree villages, a position they once argued ought be applied across the whole of the Eastern forests. Haltan culture refused their efforts, and violent civil conflict erupted, but today the battle is more political than military and the two have settled into trade relations with reduced garrisons along the border.

Soja, not part of Halta, is not protected by the Haltan treaty with the Fair Folk, which has made beastmen even more vital in providing strength to drive back hobgoblin efforts to climb the trees or overwhelm the ground-settlement palisades.

The local economy is based nearly entirely on Ironwood, which it harvests and crafts in large quantities, providing much of the Haltan supply of the vital lumber. Some amongst the Haltans have called for an invasion to retake such an important strategic resource, but such a move risks provoking unrest amongst Halta’s own beastmen population.
