The Castle of Morning Mists is a fortress-manse towering above the foothills of the Imperial Mountain in northeastern Lord's Crossing Dominion. The Castle is strategically located to defend valuable resources in the surrounding area: Mulberry groves and Silk mill villages to the west, Marble quarries and mining villages to the east. An unfortunate twist in the geomancy of the place causes a blanket of mist to settle around the Castle with every dawn... a military obstacle requiring essence sight to counteract, but at the same time a sight of breathtaking beauty.
The Castle was an important Shogunate Era fortification, sometimes allied with and sometimes warring against the powerful daimyo of Lord's Crossing. An airfield thought to date from Shogunate times remains a functional component of the Castle's defenses, though the present era sees few skyships available to base there.
The hills and mountains rising to the northeast are known as the Peaks of the Poets. For countless generations, back to the days of the Shogunate, Dragonblooded poets would make the climb up and carve their works upon the rocks, the permanence of stones near the Imperial Mountain protecting their works from wear and erosion so that to day all but the oldest remain legible.
The Castle of Morning Mists is the ancestral seat of the Berel branch of House Tepet. Unlike the other Tepet seats, the Castle has not seen its inhabitants lessened by the disaster in the North. Instead, Berel Dynasts formerly involved in mercantile activities elsewhere have relocated to the more secure base the Castle provides. They are joined by an understrength detachment from the 9th Imperial Legion.
