Winterbreath Jar

The Winterbreath Jar is a bauble artifact, once common in ages past. It is a ceramic urn, into whose clay has been worked traces of blue jade and Charged Ice from the Pole of Air. While it remains at room temperature on the outside, within it the temperature remains cool.

If one places food or drink into the Jar, it is kept fresh and chilled, cold but not so much as to be uncomfortable to consume. Frozen items such as ice placed within will not thaw or melt, despite the temperature not seeming to be below freezing on the skin.

Winterbreath Jars are not large, though they come in a number of shapes, their contents limited to a large cantaloupe or a couple of bottles of wine.

The Jars are much sought in the Scavenger Economy, gourmands in Southern climes eager for the taste of cool fruit desserts and chilled wines compete with alchemists seeking to keep concoctions frozen while they mature, and traders seeking to move delicate luxuries long distances without them spoiling… The Guild is a voracious seeker of Winterbreath Jars for its ships and caravans, to the frustration of others who desire them but lack a near-limitless purse. While other artifacts can be more valuable in jade and silver, a Winterbreath Jar is guaranteed to sell immediately, appealing to Scavenger Lords… and the nature of the Jars adds a second lure for their attentions, as while the opening of ancient jars has revealed they do not keep their contents indefinitely, some will contain ancient wines and preserved ingredients that have great value in their own right. Some production of Jars occurs in the present Age, though obtaining Charged Ice is difficult: the most notable production occurs on the Blessed Isle, controlled by the Dynast Ragara Brishon.
