White Mussels are a type of large freshwater shellfish, native to the mountain lakes and rivers of the Blessed Isle. They are relatively uncommon throughout their range, save for a few lakes where they can be found in abundance (such as those of White Mussel Prefecture).


White Mussels have yellow-green shells, whose interior is a thick iridescent layer surrounding snow-white flesh. They are valued for the high quality of pearls they produce, and the Mother-of-Pearl that can be harvested from their shells. Like many freshwater molluscs, their meat is tough and rubbery without proper preparation, but knowledgeable cooks seek them out for preparation in Dynastic Dim Sum dishes such as Sunrise on the Mountain Lake.
