Originally born to a peasant family in the Scavenger Lands, Kalla was discovered by Dynastic visitors while filling the theaters of Nexus at a young age, and drawn to the heart of civilization that is the Blessed Isle. Her romantic and nuptial life has not gone nearly as well as her dramatic career, having lost three husbands: one to Lookshy in a naval skirmish, one in the War with the Bull and one to old age, before producing children that would gain her legal status as a Dynast. She continues to use the name of her first husband, though she is technically not member of House V'neef.

She is a friend of Ledaal Shinjo and Tepet Jozan. Friendship with Shinjo allows her someone who shares her appreciation for the theatre... and who can write the climactic arias she favours in her roles.
