Stone-Tusk Boar

Stone-Tusk Boars are a breed of Godblooded wild pigs, with the blood of Earth Elementals in their veins, a result of the unusual promiscuity of the elementals dwelling on the slopes of the Omphalos, though they have long existed in numbers sufficient to breed true amongst themselves.

Stone-Tusks resemble Boar, but larger and more muscled, their ivory-yellow hair coarse and spiked. Their tusks are not bone but polished granite, granting ability to root and bore deeper into the ground than their mundane cousins in search of roots and fungi. Irritable beasts, they favour the wooded valleys between the peaks of the Blessed Isle, and will not hesitate to gore and trample any mortal who dares enter their territory.

What is a fearful danger to the Isle’s common folk is a trait eagerly sought by the scions of the Scarlet Dynasty. While a hunt for boar is a fine amusement, a hunt for Godblooded boar is a greater test of the skill of the Exalted. The stone tusks of felled boar make fine trophies, and while their meat is considered lesser to that of their mortal peers due to its extreme earthiness, a Stone-Tusk Boar centerpiece (such as Gochei at Bright Summit) serves as a most impressive dish for a post-hunt feast.

The mountain valleys where the boar make their homes have long been favoured as hunting preserves by the Dynasty, in part because few would-be-poachers can survive an encounter with them. Some Dynasts have recognized this and commissioned the capture of Stone-Tusks (a dangerous prospect for those who must carry it out!) and their relocation to hunting estates elsewhere on the Isle where they can provide challenging quarry and defense against encroaching commoners.
