Seeping Desert

The Seeping Desert is a large salt lake located within the Deep South. Each night, when the Unconquered Sun has set, saltwater slowly seeps up to fill the lakebed. When Sol rises in the morning, the water quickly seeps back into the ground, leaving behind a thin layer of pink Salt atop the sandy lakebed.

Given the value of salt, and the lack of oceans in the Southern deserts, salt from the Seeping Desert is a valuable trade commodity. The local salt god has established an alliance with The Guild, which maintains a fine temple to it on the shores of the lake, and harvests the salt left during the day, shipping it out along the Southern caravan routes to reach the more populous regions of the South, such as Gem.

Seeping Salt is said by gourmands to bring out the flavours of red meats particularly well, and is thus much sought by the kitchens of Dynasts and Threshold aristocrats. Its properties also make it suited for certain alchemical concoctions.
