Rock of Kirahari

The Rock of Kirahari is a barren island located in the far Western Ocean, as its waters fade into the Wyld. During the Shogunate Era, the Rock marked the furthest reaches of Creation, or at least of Dragonblooded rule, home to a lighthouse of Adamantine Glass manned by a garrison of Shogunal troops whose mission was to intercept and ward off incursions from the Wyld, and (in principle) guard the passage between Creation and the Pole of Water... the purpose of the lighthouse’s construction in the First Age had been to serve as waypoint for the journey to the Pole for the collection of Shapeless Water needed in artifice, but as the Shogunate wore on this became increasingly difficult.

By the late Shogunate, Kirahari was an isolated posting, and increasingly unpopular: the Rock was known for the abundance and quality of Traveller's Joy shrubs, used for ropemaking and in teas to reduce stress, so highly regarded that foreign daimyo and the Shogunal Court at Meru had imported it, but an outbreak of Spidermoths devastated the crop, reducing both the frequency of visiting vessels and the ability of local soldiers to medically relieve the stress of the post.

Communication was lost with the Rock of Kirahari just prior to the onset of the Great Contagion, that disaster rendering any investigation impossible as the crisis spread. Today, some mad mariners report that they have sighted the light of the Rock’s lighthouse as they were swept through the depths of the Wyld beyond the Elemental Pole of Water, though such tales are hard to believe… amongst the sailors of the West, to say that one has “sighted Kirahari” is to admit to being hopelessly lost.
