Rain Pavilion

A rain pavilion is an architectural element often found in Dynastic gardens. While it can be used for entertaining and viewing even on bright days, it is primarily meant for enjoying the rain.

To this end, the pavilion is open to the breeze, and around the pavilion are beds of plants with broad thick leaves, with Banana plants particularly favoured, as the sounds of rainfall are accentuated as they land upon the leaves. The roof of a rain pavilion is angled to ensure that water does not reach those within it, nor does it accumulate to fall off the roof in heavy streams whose noise might disrupt the ambiance. Some ornate examples of rain pavilions incorporate a reservoir in the roof to capture the drops falling upon it, so that they might be released in a gentle shower on the plants around it if those within wish to enjoy the sounds of rain on a sunny day.

Traditionally rain pavilions are considered best for entertaining in the Air and Water seasons, and as places for contemplative reflection throughout the year, cleansing the mind of wayward thoughts so those within can achieve clarity.
