Perpetual Restoration Engine
Perpetual Restoration Engines were Magitech Component artifacts which saw significant use in Magitech Crafting during the Golden Age. Such systems included complex devices and coils of intricately-knotted Adamant tubing containing significant quantities of Liquid Gemstone (amounting to many tonnes of gems for each Engine), circulating between bolstering the artifact and regenerating their own potence in order to render the artifact in which they were placed self-maintaining.
Such Engines were an example of cooperation between proponents of Magitech and those of Microtheurgy Crafting: while a purely magitechnological engine could be constructed using Ambient Essence Accumulators, Essence Capacitors, and Starmetal-programmed Essence Circuits, microtheurges could instead establish pantheons of Nanogods, imperishable spirits who would directly maintain and operate the artifact’s systems.
The Usurpation saw Creation lose the ability to manufacture Perpetual Restoration Engines... without the Solar Exalted, complex microtheurgy became impossible, as did production of numerous components, while those that could still be manufactured proved increasingly difficult to create as wars and then the Great Contagion eroded the magical infrastructure of the Golden Age. Alternatives, such as Plug Circuits made from Omphalic Glass or Quartz Vials, had to be devised by the sorcerer-engineers of the Shogunate Era, bringing with them the need for constant Artifact Maintenance and Repair.
