Maidenthread

While the Five Maidens wear garments of essence and Ambrosia like many of their peers, their most beautiful garments of all are woven from different and more wondrous thread than even these. Some say the Maidens were born wrapped in swaddling cloth which grew with them into their robes, some that they emerged unclothed and wove their first garments from the threads of the Loom of Fate itself, some say they were gifted their clothes by the Primordial Autochthon or one of his great servants in Heaven, and from the weft and weave of their garments the young Maidens learned the craft that is their duty.

Rarely, one of the Maidens will gift a Maidenthread to a Sidereal Exalt who has earned the greatest degree of her favour, drawing it carefully from the garment she wears. This thread is a valuable Exotic Component, used in artifice to imbue works with aspects of the Constellations under the Maiden’s purview.

The Maidens have never willingly granted a Maidenthread to any but their Chosen, but there is an ancient tale of the First Age which speaks of a skilled and cunning thief who penetrated the defences of Heaven and the Bureau of Destiny, and took a Maidenthread for their own without the Maiden wearing it taking note until the deed was done. Some hold this story to be apocryphal, the Lunar Exalted that it tells the deeds of one amongst their number, but the most ancient accounts speak of a Solar Exalted Night Caste. With the return of the Hidden Suns to Creation, perhaps it will not be long before another seeks out this valuable treasure.
