Lizard Scale Formation
The Lizard Scale Formation, also known as the ‘Tribal Wedge Formation’, is a military tactic seen amongst some barbarian tribes, which some observers consider a relative of the cavalry Fish Scale Formation or the Dragon Scale Formation of the Imperial Legions, though the barbarians tend to muster their formations in far greater numbers.
The Formation sees charging troops arranged in the shape of a wedge or arrowhead. The chieftain of the tribe takes the point, with all the warriors of the tribe arrayed behind them, the most powerful at the tip and the weaker at the rear and center. It strikes enemy lines far harder than the looser charges typical of barbarian armies, while allowing champions prove themselves… a chief whose leadership is questioned will emerge from a successful Lizard Scale charge with his authority renewed. It is known to be particularly effective against enemies arranged in lines, piercing shield walls and defensive formations.
Not all barbarian tribes make use of the formation. Amongst the most well-known to embrace it are the warriors of the Arczeckhi Horde, who were known to be particularly capable users of it in the Arczeckhi Invasion of the Scavenger Lands, where they would spot and pierce the weakest units in enemy lines and strike them, multiple tribes in Lizard Scale Formation each taking one target to shatter the enemy front in several places.
The god of the Lizard Scale Formation is Mokuu, serving under Sunipa in the Office of Eastern War.
