Jade Steel

Jade Steel is perhaps the most common form of magical material in Creation's present age. It is a simple adaptation of the methods used to produce steel, but (along with trace elements of other materials) the Iron is alloyed with Jade dust in place of the black Coal. The mixture contains one part jade dust for every nine parts iron, but the magical properties of the jade seemingly suffuse through the whole of the alloy without being diminished, allowing the jade which might forge a single pure-jade Direlance instead forge ten of jade-steel.

Jade Steel is of course not without its flaws. In addition to those who dismiss it as tainted for aesthetic reasons, artificers find that artifacts of jade steel are simple, basic, functional but without the unique powers and manifestations that characterize artifacts of purer composition. Jade Steel also suffers when used for the most complex of artifacts: it functions nearly-identically to jade for basic weapons, armour, and warstriders, but as layers of function and complexity increase the alloy is unable to keep up the same effectiveness as pure jade.
