The Isle of Sunken Folly is an islet located on the eastern edge of the Open Seas, located far west of Wu Jian. It is bordered towards the northeast by the Isles of Savagery, to the east by the [Cattle Reef]] and to the southeast by the Pelican Reef]. The surrounding reefs make reaching the Isle exceedingly difficult.

The 'Isle of Sunken Folly' is its common name, but the more hopeful denizens of the West call it the 'Isle of Sunken Treasures', for it is surrounded by innumerable legends about riches concealed beneath, by pirate kings, by Shogunate Era daimyo, by gods, by Anathema. For generations the island has changed hands, sometimes controlled by the sailors of the Coral Archipelago, sometimes the Kaizoku Branch of House Peleps, sometimes the mercenaries of The Guild, sometimes powerful pirate fleets who have asserted themselves in wresting control. The work of each temporary owner has built upon those preceding, producing a grand excavation delving deep beneath the surface of the isle. These excavations have unearthed chambers, corridors, traps, and empty dirt in alternating fashion, every declaration that the bottom has been reached disproven by discovery of yet a deeper layer. Some in the present era consider it worthless, a trick for wasting time that will offer up nothing. Others hold that no one would delve so deep, laying snares and tricks all the way, if there was not something of incredible value waiting at the end.

Generations of digging and exploitation have deforested the isle, leaving no trees to supply wood or food. Supplies for excavations are invariably imported, though food is frequently supplemented by local fish or Flowering Sea Cow.
