Iron Amidst the Leaves
Iron Amidst the Leaves
Auxiliary Perfection Campaign RY522-530
By Tepet Byau.
Iron Amidst the Leaves is an account of the training tribal auxiliaries, from the Linowan, Rokan-jin, and Talinin tribes, to strengthen border patrols against Fair Folk incursions from the forests of the Northeast. The campaign fell under the aegis of the 25th Imperial Legion, within which its author served as a Dragonlord, and was conducted primarily based on the personal experiences of Legion officers along with lessons from the Thousand Correct Actions of the Upright Soldier, adapted to fit the local cultures.
The auxiliaries had to be trained in tactics effective against the Fae, and in use of weapons capable of challenging such a foe, particularly Iron axes and occult procedures taught to shamans by Legion thaumaturges. They also needed to be drilled to ensure their morale would hold when faced with otherworldly Fae creatures, and to coordinate them with Legion counterattacks.
The text tells that the best method of teaching was by example, with the author and his officers taking the lead on forays into the Fae domains beneath the trees so they could demonstrate that the enemy could be defeated easily with the right strategies.
