Inari's Stand

Inari's Stand is a small Shadowland located in an area of low hills and black oak trees in the Northeastern Threshold, on the eastern edge of Linowa. Distant from any waterway, the location is of little interest save as geographic marker: by tradition, a line drawn directly northeast from the center of Inari's stand to the River of Fallen Leaves marks the border between the territories of the Linowan Nation and the Rokan-jin.

The reason for the use of this marker is found at the center of the shadowland: a pillar of grey iron, ancient and immovable, standing 37 feet in height and which seems never to rust despite rain and snow. The light of the Unconquered Sun, reflected on the pillar's surface, takes on a strange greenish colour. Characters in what might have been Old Realm cover its surface, but time seems to have slowly worn their details away until they are illegible.

Savants amongst both living and dead may recognize the substance as Malfean Iron, a substance of the Yozi not found naturally within Creation. In Creation, the area has little to draw visitors, while in the Underworld ghosts take great pains to avoid it, fori t is whispered some terrible monstrosity lurks in the Stand waiting to devour any spirit it can capture in its thorny claws.
