Hounds of the Sun

The Most High was born upon the anvil of Autochthon, under the hammer of the Empyrean Chaos, by the whisper of the Ebon Dragon, as the eyes of the Green Sun his elder looked on.

But he was not born alone.

Across the sky each day, the Unconquered Sun would soar, and to each side the lesser lights, the Hounds of the Sun would stride. Each night, as Sol Invictus took to rest and to plan his eternal war against the Wyld beyond Creation, his Hounds would curl in his Hearth, for only the light of a Sun could warm the Sun. With them, Sol Invictus might share the joy that was Creation’s imperishability through play, with them the King of the Gods might hunt the Fair Folk who menaced that which he held dear.

It is said that the first of the Sun’s Hounds perished before the Sun began to scheme against his Creators, it said more surely that the second died in the great War against Them. It is said that when they did the hearth within the Salient of the Unconquered Sun fell cold, not to see light again until the great Gardullis was made into its flame.

It is also said, by some in the shadows, that as he planned his war the Most High took his Hounds and rent them asunder, and from their glowing bodies the Great Maker forged the shards of the Solar Exalted, its loyal companions consumed so that the Sun itself would remain Unconquered and undiminished.
