Description

Fat gulls wing.jpg

The Fat Gull’s Wing is a large two-masted wooden sailing ship, fitted as with most merchant vessels, with square-rigged fore and main masts... an arrangement well suited for speed when running with the wind (as is done along the popular tradewinds), but having much more difficulty sailing without wind at its back, or fine maneuvering. A snub beakhead juts under the bowsprit from a portly hull, which ends in a square stern from which rises an ornate sterncastle, gilded and painted with a swirling blue cloud pattern, topped with the poop deck and ship’s wheel. The sterncastle contains cabins for captain and ship’s owner as well as a large salon for entertaining guests in style in front of large aft windows. A small balcony quarterdeck extends from the back of the ship, allowing fresh sea air to be taken at leisure without the noise of the main decks. Companionways at the aft of the main deck provide access to the luxury rooms and crew quarters, while a large raised deck hatch dominates the main deck and permits entry into the holds, a structural vulnerability when under attack but allowing stowage of large or unusually-shaped cargos.

History

Fat Gull’s Wing was commissioned three years ago by Tepet Nerigus Kobutsu, built in the shipyards of Arjuf to serve as a vessel capable of transporting important passengers and cargoes. It was gifted to his wife V’neef Chiruno, to serve as a properly appointed dwelling in her journeys in the West, along with its commercial duties as a ship leased to the Realm’s merchant marine, which provides it with captain and crew. The Fat Gull's Wing is currently based out of the port of Handae in the satrapy of Bushan.
