Circling Rage

Circling Rage, god of oral histories, was formerly an official of Index within the Bureau of Destiny’s Division of Secrets. A god of knowledge passed down by word of mouth, Rage found much favour within the Division as he kept secrets in the mind not written where prying eyes might see. Rage achieved the height of his power as the record-keeping systems of the Golden Age collapsed during the Shogunate Era, the growth of his purview parallel to the increasing inattention of his superior in Index, Chamber of the Void.

Circling Rage’s schemes to advance were known to the Divisional head Nara-O, who had reason to remove the ineffective Chamber. The Keeper of Secrets offered assistance to oust Chamber and elevate Rage to his position as Keeper of Indices. The coup was easily carried out, though Chamber managed to escape Yu Shan during the attempt.

Rage proved to be a jealous Keeper, hoarding information and resisting calls by other officials to share the Index’ lists until his hand was forced. Much of his time was spent at work on increasingly complex forms of oral indexing and record-keeping. Complaints accumulated, and when the Great Contagion wiped whole cultures and their oral traditions from Creation a weakened Rage was ousted in the same manner as his predecessor, through collusion between Nara-O and Luxana god of Recorded Knowledge, who is the current Keeper of Indices. The two gods ensured that information was delivered to the censors implicating Rage in abuses of office, and his attitude left few allies to raise voices in his defense: given his knowledge, while his crimes did not merit the sentence of Starmetal, he was banished to the Archipelago of the Exiles, where he remains to this day.
