Theme and Activity: After sunset on Hesiesh’s feast day, the inhabitants of Eagle’s Launch gather aboard ship and shore, around the city harbour. There, they release lotus-shaped boats of wood and paper, each bearing a single candle, uniting in a glimmering fleet between dark sky and darker water. The sight is beautiful in of itself, but more important are the fetes held aboard the large Dynastic pleasure barges, where the lights become a backdrop to political manoeuvring.
