In the early eons of the Primordial Age, there were no gods without employment, each one filling a position for which it had been forged. But the movements of the great Primordials and the endless churn of the Wyld wore away at this foundation, and the great upheavals such as the Primordial War and Great Contagion resulted in the vanishing of purviews and the purging of suspect spirits.

Today, the Celestial Bureaucracy holds positions which have been left empty, and the ranks of spirits known as gods includes those with no portfolio to call their own. Many of these continue to reside in the slums of Heaven, waiting for opportunity to regain some small post or assignment, while others have fallen to corruption and rebelliousness.

Their number includes:

Star-Eyed Pah, former god of the peak of the Omphalos (purview eliminated by the Primordials).

Mun-Selok, former god of Coins Minted for the Daimyo of Deheleshen (purview destroyed).

Toca, former god of Charms for the Sick who Seek Treatment in Hollow (purview destroyed).

Shey of the Blade, former god of swords forged for the Dragon Kings of Rathess by their Human Slaves (purview destroyed).

Orduan the Dusk-Bringer, god of the Sixfold Iron Claw (purview broken in the Great Contagion) (missing).

Caliphrexos, former god of Temples to Divinities of the Bureau of Nature in Whitewall (dismissed from post by machinations of the Syndics).

Hun Tan the Unnamed, former god of the Sea Sheep of the Western Depths (purview eliminated).

One and Many Varied Faces, former god of the Library of Hollow (purview eliminated) (missing).

Silk-Winged Ghost, former god of butterflies on the Sun Pearl Islands (position eliminated by Great Contagion), (missing).

Grifiel the Silver Feather Lord, former god of the Everwinter Forest, 2nd to be appointed to post (missing, dismissed from post for dereliction).

The Ice-Eyed Prince, former god of the Everwinter Forest, 3rd to be appointed to post (missing, dismissed from post for dereliction).

Xillaes, former god of the Everwinter Forest, 6th to be appointed to post (missing, dismissed from post for dereliction).

Ah Chün, former god of a tribe lost to the Wyld (purview destroyed).

Parosi former god of Starvation and Famine in a region of the Far East lost to the Wyld (purview destroyed).

Some unemployed gods have attempted to form Courts of their own, but these are dismissed by the Celestial Bureaucracy as more worthless than even the associations of the Elementals.

- Lumin, former god of Eastern free-standing rocks and monoliths (dismissed from position).

-- Lily Blessing, former god of a Djala tribe (purview eliminated by slavers from Gem), leader of the Eyes In Darkness.

The Motley Gang, a gang of disenfranchised gods in Yu Shan known for their cruelty.
