Lapdogs are a type of small dog bred as pets and fashion accessories. While some (such as the Terrier) touch on the world of working dogs, for the most part the dogs are toys for amusement rather than for hunting, food, or labour. Their name is literal: dogs small enough to fit on a lap, and whose purpose is to do so.

For the past several decades, the most highly regarded lapdog in Creation has been the beautiful (and expensive) Portee Lapdog, much sought but rarely seen outside the laps of the Scarlet Dynasty.
