Bright Spearpoint

Bright Spearpoint is a god of the Southeastern Threshold, serving as God of the Southern Hunt in the Bureau of Humanity under Grala Mistress of the Endless Hunt.

Spearpoint was once partner with the Southern War God Ahlat when that god implemented a scheme during the First Age to intermingle concepts of cattle, hunting, and war. At first the arrangement was of great benefit to Bright Spearpoint, ensuring hunts were more frequent and more successful, for which grander prayers and sacrifices arrived in thanks. But soon Spearpoint's tribes had no need for the hunt, or for Bright Spearpoint... Ahlat positioned himself to take all credit, and narrowed the activities of the Southeastern tribes to war and cattle nearly exclusively. Though their alliance was never formally broken, Ahlat's treatment of Bright Spearpoint and the latter's bitterness over the matter mean it has, for all practical purposes, been reversed.

Bright Spearpoint had not merely lost his tribes, and thus direct influence in Creation, but Ahlat seemed a master of divine politics and Spearpoint found himself unable to win battles in Heaven. Like a hunter, the god did not elect to mae a suicidal charge... instead he made plans as best he could.

Spearpoint's plans have been many, with varying success, never directly challenging the powerful Ahlat. It was he who took a number of guises to spread the idea of the Five Trophies of the Southern Hunt, the five creatures (all in the South) whose hunt was the greatest test of skill and bravery. This has brought the Dragonblooded into the purview of the Southern Hunt, not in large numbers, but it is enough: not only do many Dynastic hunters command their entourages, even whole villages, to pray and sacrifice to the Hunt Gods as they embark upon their safaris, but the Dragonblooded of the Realm irk Ahlat with their presence across his beloved Harborhead.

Spearpoing has also siezed the purview of being god of Austrechs, vicious hunting birds of the South. These birds are hunters by their very nature, independent of human involvement, and with Spearpoint encouraging their growth in ever larger numbers they spill across the South to feast upon vulnerable cattle herds.

Unfortunately, Bright Spearpoint is now extremely concerned. His new superior, Grala, replaced a predecessor with whom he had a long relationship. He is not certain where her intentions lie... but he is in no rush. All of his plans have been slow and steady, and there is no need for him to hurry. The Southern Hunt is a patient hunt... a human pursues his quarry across the open plains, not speeding to catch it but merely waiting and following. It will grow tired eventually, and then it is merely a matter of walking up and sticking a spear in the throat of that damned bull...
