Date: RY768 2nd Resplendent Earth.

Sponsors: V'neef Kenet, Cynis Ataxis.

Summary: Bill put before the Deliberative that would introduce a tariff on all agricultural goods produced outside the Blessed Isle, with proceeds paid out to the Great Houses holding agricultural assets. The bill had begun to take shape in previous years, through work by twin senators V'neef Kenet and V'neef Tapan alongside businesswoman V'neef Cejanis, but disagreements between the two led to the submission of an altered bill by Kenet without Tapan's backing.

Debate: Supporters lauded the bill as a vital step in fighting against dangerous decreases that have occurred recently in the Isle's agricultural output, by making local prices more competitive and granting resources to the Houses with agricultural land holdings. Opponents accused those Houses of attempting to increase their personal fortunes at the expense of the Realm, with criticism from the Ragara and Cathak caucuses due to their own agricultural holdings in the southern Threshold. Within the V'neef caucus, senator V'neef Tapan decried the bill as missing the entire purpose of local production, as it would drive up the price of food for the Isle's common folk rather than fixing any of the true problems emerging from decreasing agricultural production.

Result: Defeated.
