Berry of Gustatory Miracles

The berry of gustatory miracles is a rare plant native to the Southeastern Threshold. It is oval in shape and deep red in colour. Their scent is mildly bitter, and when eaten they taste rather bland, slightly fruity and slightly sweet. The berries can be dried and preserved, making them chewy to eat later or allowing them to be pounded and soaked with water to form a liquid that takes on a deep but vibrant red colour.

The 'miracle' which gives the fruit their name is one known to many of the peoples who dwell in the region: after eating a berry, the one who did so finds foods that have spoiled, or plants that have bitterness or sourness too strong to be eaten, take on a strong sweetness in place of their original repelling flavour. Those peoples who make use of the berry in their cooking have a much easier time during droughts, when they are able to consume older meats and bitter local grasses that those who do not favour the berry are unable to stomach.

Knowledge of the berry is often a treasured secret to those peoples aware of it, and the berry itself is quite uncommon, making its use nearly unknown outside the Southeast save to a small handful of wealthy and knowledgeable gourmands using it for the tricks of Motonic Gastronomy.
