27th Imperial Legion

The 27th Imperial Legion had long served as the fist of the Realm in pacifying and occupying the island nations of the Western Threshold, alongside the 24th Imperial Legion. In RY764, when the Great Houses took up direct control of the Legions, House Nellens attempted to petition to sponsor the 27th. The other Great Houses denied the petition, and agreed to split the 27th amongst themselves, but could not come to an agreement on who would receive which portions.

During the delay, Puissant Mongoose, the outcaste strategoi of the 27th, declared the Dynasty corrupt and his Legion to be the only true remaining defenders of the Realm. House V'neef and House Peleps were both in position to respond, though they did not coordinate operations. Against some garrisons of the 27th Legion,House V'neef tested units of its new-formed 2nd Marine Guard and the privateers of its Merchant Navy, with mixed results. House Peleps was more total in its response, sending the Imperial Navy to the island headquarters of the 27th and bombarding it with flame, oil, and salt, until the surface had been scorched clean. The Navy then waited, sinking anything that left the island, until Navy marines walked in unopposed in late RY766 after the last of the defenders had starved to death. This victory allowed House Peleps to secure much of the 27th's heavy equipment, which was transferred to the Navy. The island itself was offered as a gift to princess V'neef.
