Opium

Opium is a popular drug, taken in by smoking, with the Guild producing vast quantities and selling it across the length and breadth of Creation. It is extremely addictive and withdrawal is particularly difficult - few addicts successfully get through the entire process. Opium is made from gum extracted from opium poppies.

Under the rule of the Scarlet Empress, opium was banned in the Realm, but smuggling occurred and the drug was available in the larger cities of the Blessed Isle. Since her disappearance, though the law has not been rescinded, enforcement has ceased and Dynastic interests (House Cynis in particular) have begun domestic production, ensuring a plethora of opium dens have sprung up in urban areas.

The Guild produces an even more potent concentrated form of the drug, known as Heroin.
