Divine Red Mushrooms are bright red mushrooms, native to the river meadows of the Northeastern Threshold. They produce a slight reddish light, barely visible save on very dark nights… it is this light that gives them their name, for it does not exude from their flesh but rather projects just above their caps, in the shape of an Old Realm phoneme, the language of the Divine. Each mushroom produces a single phoneme symbol, and these do not seem to have meaning nor do they combine to form proper characters and words, but they remain of great interest to shamans and mycologists alike.

Divine Red Mushrooms are highly hallucinogenic if consumed, and very poisonous. Nevertheless, some shamans will attempt to use them to bring themselves into closer communion with the gods. Amongst the Linowan, the mushrooms are particularly favoured for the deadly resolution of leadership disputes over the post of Boat Clan Shaman… whomever survives the ordeal emerges as Clan Shaman.
