The 24th Imperial Legion had long served as the fist of the Realm in pacifying and occupying the island nations of the Western Threshold, the environment requiring it operate divided into dozens of small garrisons linked and supplied by vessels of the Merchant Marine. House V'neef assumed sponsorship of the 24th in RY764, and disbanded it, transferring all of its assets and soldiers to the Merchant Marine in order to form the core of the 1st Marine Guard and 2nd Marine Guard.
